Did'nt know if i should put this here or news ?David has received many offers (exceeding $100,000) from around the world to sell the flag. Originally, he declined.... and instead framed the flag and loaned it to several Colleges, Universities, Schools, Fire Departments, and Museums throughout the United States.
In March 2004 David was diagnosed with Renal Cell Carcinoma (Kidney Cancer) and has been battling the disease ever since. On July 12th, 2004, David was given 3 months to live by his doctors. At age 44, and with three children (ages 6, 10 & 13), David was not ready to submit to this disease. He has been undergoing high doses of a costly new treatment that are helping to save David's life.

never mind -- dont want to start a political discussion"Each problem that I solved became a rule which served afterwards to solve other problems." - Rene Descartes (1596-1650) -
This is from the site:
This flag received NATIONAL Media attention when its current owner, David Nicholson, who owned an auction house in Orange, Virginia, discovered it in early 2002. -

$371,300.00
I almost expected it to go for more.....
Wonder what the other one MackemX posted will go for ?
So far it does not seem to be getting as much attention but still has 6 days to go..... -
This is sad...people profiting off of a tragedy,it should be in a museum or archive.
I have a bad feeling this topic is going to be locked. -

And i'm sure the treatment is not cheap that he has to pay for, and i'm sure whatever is left over IF he lives will go to his family.
In a way i do agree about being in a museum or something and maybe that's where it will end up. It's not like he is selling it to just get rich.

I think it's a bad idea. Imagine how people would feel if the winning bidder was buying it just to burn it? I doubt he will, but it's his, he can do what he wants with it.
Nothing can stop me now, 'cause I don't care anymore. -

Imagine what it might be worth in a century or two. A big, tangible piece of old history, almost medieval. Any guesses? Not that we'll be around to see who's right and who's wrong.

For the two above me, actually read everything, he's not selling it "purely for profit'
-
& where did we come up with this information that he got it for free
-
I just find it quite a coincedence that he's selling a rare flag and he has cancer....sort of like the kid who's accusing Michael Jackson of abuse, his parents are crooks/con-artists.*
Oh wait the seller just happens to sell other stuff too...what a coincedence: http://feedback.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewFeedback&userid=rounder23
*I don't want to start a wacko jacko flamewar,I was just making an analogy. -

1st off, if you READ everything they way they talk in the auction as if the owner is someone else,
2nd, who said the person selling it is the person that owns it ??
3rd, i saw him, the guy in the photo with the flag and family, on the national news, i'm sure if he was lying about his cancer ect. someone would have found out, it's NOT that hard to look into something like that.
4th, he is under no obligation to donate ANYTHING to the cancer center where he is being treated
And FYI, E-bay sales are considered legaly binding contracts, i would hate to be the guy on the hook for $371,000.00
I know they dont do much for that situation, non paying bidders, but this aint no chump change and e-bay will get a GOOD chunk of that final sales amount, and they sure don't want to lose that commision or fee.. -
I remember a house Eminem once lived in or something like that going for about 10 times over its market value on ebay, sold by I think his uncle. Anyway, I also think it went to like the 10th highest bidder because they couldn't get anyone to pay up. I'm just saying that may be the case here as well.

Hey
Oh, i know, but it would suck
I noticed it was made a pre approved auction & they even listed their phone number to call and be approved to bid on it, i don't know how they would make sure you were good for it but
I am gonna watch it for awhile and see if i can find out what happened with it.
