  1. hi, i'm having a problem trying to convert ac3 audio to wav using the following tutorial https://www.videohelp.com/sefy/?id=wavextract2.html.

just to let you know what's going on i first identified the audio codec using gspot and it's ac3 (0x2000) dolby laboratories, inc. i then followed the tutorial i provided a link to above to a t and when i get to step 3 where i'm supposed to open up headac3he and click on the source file and then select the ac3 / wav file i generated with virtualdub it always says the same thing "could not find data chunk!"

what am i doing wrong? and is there an easier way to convert ac3 audio to wav?

i should also mention the only thing i was kinda unsure about in the tutorial was step 2 (a / b) which reads "click on "file" then "save wav" and select your target name and click on the "save" button, this will create an ac3 file with a wav header which we will need to unpack into an uncompressed wav file for better usage with other programs."

the part i was unsure about was the "select your target name part"

  2. ok, here is how you do it the easy way:

    1. Open virtualDub.
    2. Open your AVI file.
    3. goto AUDIO en select FULL PROCESING mode.
    4. goto FILE and select SAVE WAV
    5. enter a name for your wav file.
    6. use the produces wav file in TempGenc.
    7. Headac3he is not needed!!

    good luck.

  5. Yes, you don`t have the proper codecs installed!!!!
Install ac3filter (or the K-lite codec pack FULL).

    greetings,

I would not reccomend installing ANY codec pack. Download and Install individual codecs if and when you need them.

  7. thanks guys it worked i did have one more question though. can i use the wav file i converted from ac3 to wav with mainconcept's mpeg convertor?which is what i've been using after haveing a few issues with tempgenc.

i don't know why but when i use tempgenc to convert xvid to vcd the video would always come out fine but the audio would never play even when i decompressed it with avi2vcd. so thats when i started using mainconcepts mpeg convertor and havent had a problem with it till i came across my first xvid movie with ac3 audio as most are mp3 audio.

anyways thx for the help guys i appreciate it

AC3Filter is a dshow decoder. VirtualDub requires an ACM decoder. Maybe HeadAC3he just doesn't like AC3's with wav headers?

I have exactly the same problem, and I already have the ac3filter installed (0.70b), so I am able to play AVI with AC3 sound in Windows Media player and others...

I am not able to simply use "full processing mode" in Virtualdub due to this error, and I dont want to use headac3he or other tool.

Does this have to do with the mentioned ACM codec? Can someone explain how to make this work with VirtualDub?

    Thanks

Use the AC3 ACM Decompressor. Works fine in Vdub and Vdubmod.
