  1. I needed a 30 second clip from a DVD for a school project.
Used DVD Dcripter to get the DVD into VOBs
Changed *.VOB to *.mpg so lead would edit.
Joined several pieces and saved to MPG 1 and MPG 2
Neither have audio.... WHY? Can somebody help out here?
I tried the help files and a bit of searching but did not see an answer that made any sense

Did you Demux the MPEG? To see if the audio made the trip with the video? Get yourself TMPGEnc DVD Author. Load your DVD. Go to source setup. Click on add DVD Video. Choose the title and audio you want. Choose your destination folder. Your DVD will now be converted back to MPEG. Pull it into a MPEG editing program. Cut your clip out and save. Use it as you need it, raw file or convert back to DVD.

    Yep, jdizzy40 has a solution.

Just so you understand the problem, you must extract the audio as a separate file that the program supports. Ulead VS8 will see the renamed VOB only as video. It has no AC-3 decoder.

The AC-3 option will permit AC-3 encoding (output) but not decoding (input).

***Correction, VS8 site claims AC-3 decoding is included as well in the $29 optional plug-in. See http://www.ulead.com/store/vs/runme.htm#plugin

  5. Everybody, your way too good to me!
I took a chance and blew the thirty bucks on the AC3 plug in and WOW I have sound now!

Why in the he@@ wouldn't Ulead include at least the DEcoder portion in their software??? Oh Yeah, so they can get another thirty bucks for a program to do what it says it does...

    Thanx for the help!

Be happy, my Vegas 5 +DVD ($800 list) won't decode AC-3, only encode.
