I had made Avi files with my dvd. These files are now in video/audio which is divx/ac3. Now I have the problem with the audio part. I convert the video to mpg format. Then import it in tmp author. and then audio. Now I have also the ac3 plugin for author. ITs gives me an error saying unsupported format. I wanna keep the ac3 as it is for the above. Also does converting the ac3 to wav and back to ac3 degrade the quality or the channel it plays as I know wave is stereo, I think, dont know about ac3 though
thanks

From memory, if you import your source movies as a file, not as video, you should be able to import the MPG files without having to convert it to an MPG and audio stream
I've done this before, and just imported quite a few MPG's and let the softwrae do the hardwork when its authoring the DVD, it plays perfectly
The only problem you will get is that TMPGenc refuses to accept mixed formats, so if you're source is a mixture of PAL and NTSC, or even different resolutions, then it may moan that the format is not supported
In that case, just use DVDPatcher to fool the software into thinking the source is something it will accept
If all your source video si in one format, then you won't have that problem -
That happened to me once I think, I used Beslice to fix the ac3 and it worked fine.

I am afraid I might have mislead you. I have avi files which usually convert to vcd Pal and author it in Tmpg dvdauthor. Usually I dont keep the AC3 Audio but this time I want to keep the AC3 audio which accompanies the avi video. So I imported the m2v files which are all pal and then try to browse for the audio and choose the avi file, so that it selects the audio part of the avi files whcih is AC3. I dont really want to reconvert the audio as they will lose the quality which is 5.1 channel.

Right, what I think you're asking is about the audio
In that case, you can only import audio in AC3, WAV or MP2 format. It doesn't support MP3 or any other format
Try converting the AC3 to a WAV file, using AC3Tool, it will allow you to downmix, if required, your audio to a WAV file
Look at the settings for the WAV conversion, and you will see a small set of options that will let you downmix the AC3 audio from mono, stereo, stereo surround, or 5.1 surround sound
I can't point you to the AC3Tool tutorial on my website as I'm in the process of moving home, so have no internet access at present and have no website hosting as I currently don't have an ISP until I get somewhere more permanent to live !! -
I really appreaciate your help guys looks like I sorted out the prob. I was doing something wrong after all.
