  1. Hey, I just got some DVD's that where imported from china and I wanna re burn them to make them dvd region free. I' used dvd shrink on the first disc and it worked fine. But on this second disc I have when I put it into my dvd players its says "this type of disc cannot be played" I've tried everything to setting it to region free to setting it to region 1. it did not work on that 2nd dvd. the dvd plays in my dvd rom....any suggestions?

Might be a PAL format disc.
What dvd players are you trying it in ?
Because even if it is made region free if the dvd player won't play a PAL dvd you would get a message like that.

  4. To get that Pal disk to work you have to use the PAL / NTSC DVD Conversion (patch method)

No, that will only work IF your dvd player will convert pal anyways 8)
If his player would play PAL format, just making it region free (All Region's) would work.
On a standalone dvd player anyways....
Have you tried playing it in your pc ? Because if it play's in your pc alright i'll bet anything that is your problem.....
    EDIT:
I see you said it played fine in your dvd rom drive on your pc... bet anything it is a pal disc.....

  6. Ah I never thought of that....Are there any Pal to NTSC converters out there? It play fine in my dvdrom like I said but not in any stand alone player.

Yes, the patch method can work in both directions, but there a no guarantees that your player will accept it. You are not actually converting from one format to another, just telling the player than you have. Your player might play it, might play it badly, or might not play it at all.

What region was on the original ?
    Read my blog here.

    Oh yes i do
I have tried that Soooooo long ago & Sooooo many times, i'm amazed anyone even wastes their time with it!!! I have tried it with so many players & the only time it ever worked, changing the region backing up the same PAL movie worked on the same players, if one way did'nt work, neither did the so called "patch" way.

You should really go back and read & learn everything about it 8)
Because if it is not converted to NTSC it IS STILL PAL!!!!!!!!!! and if your player won't convert PAL to NTSC, just changing some script IS NOT going to convert PAL to NTSC, PERIOD!!!

Just like setting a dvdr to only region 1 with DVD Shrink 3.2, does not really make it only region 1.

(Is reminded of the knob who claimed he had no idea what he was talking about when he pointed out that bitsetting a disc to DVD-ROM will not necessarily make it work on every player. What was his line again? Oh yeah, every player has to be able to read DVD-ROMs, so setting a few bits on a recordable to claim it is a DVD-ROM means the player has to read it. So now we're hearing that just telling a disc it is PAL or NTSC will make it work even if the playback equipment will not sync to the essentially unchanged signal? What the hell have people been smoking lately?)

SOME players will work if you do the IFOEdit hack.

MOST will exhibit some issues - stuttering, kicking, pausing.

And MANY won't play the disc NO MATTER WHAT. If the player doesn't do PAL, usually that means it doesn't do PAL - AT ALL.

And before we start with who knows what - I _do_ know what I'm talking about, I've been here a lot longer than BOTH of you, so HUSH already and answer the poor guy's question.

    ------------------

Original poster: You can convert to NTSC but it is VERY time consuming. There are guides on the subject, it is usually best to simply to the movie only... or to do what myself and many others have done. Go to your local Best Buy, spend $30 and buy a Cyberhome player. It's tiny and it plays EVERYTHING.

As far as the converting, the easiest way is to find a player that will play both PAL & NTSC. & they can be found very cheap.
Exactly what Gurm stated about Best Buy.
As i have told many before 8)

Search through the dvd player's & hacks to find diff. ones.
The cyberhome ch-dvd300 will convert pal to ntsc and allso has a region free or all region code you can input that will allow it to play any region pal or ntsc. i have one and it works great for 40.00, you can find them cheaper on sale at times.
