I have noticed that on a VCD i bought i can make a search using my Pioneer 535 DVD for an exact time .
i can put in something like 1:13:02 and it will go to that point on the VCD.

My problem it that with VCDs i burn by myself i cant use this function.
I used Nero and EZCD 5.
i am new to this so i might have not chosen the right method.

can anyone help me with making a VCD or SVCD in that way so my DVD player can make searches on it?
(i am talking on a 1 track movie, not a skip between tracks like in the menu option)

    thanks

All VCD's I've made search to the exact point I enter using the time search function, when Fast Fowarding x4, the time advances consistantly 20 seconds at a time.

Through my search for the best encoder I've used just about all. Same results no matter which one.

I've authored with Nero, VCD Imager, WinOn CD, blah, blah, blah. All same results.

Make sure your encoding to spec. If you used TMPGenc, make sure detect scene change (auto I frame insurtion) is unchecked. And you may have to re-mux with a VCD compliant muxer. BBmpeg, VCD Toolkit 2.0, and Xing, are a few that come to mind.

  3. I've seen complaints that Nero doesn't generate the correct scan data, leading to assorted problems in DVD/VCD players. It's possible this is one of those problems.

Do you have another program that can record a VCD for comparison? If not, try downloading VCDImager (under the Tools link at left) and use it to make a simple VCD for comparison. If the time search function works on other discs, I'd suspect a bug in the Nero-recorded disc.

    ok
I am pretty much sure i found my problem.
it was not Nero or any other burning progy fault.

it was a bad choice i made with a TMPGenc template to encode with interlaced instead of non-interlaced.
( I thought i read somewhere that this it the right way for an MPEG that is for a TV ).

I tried useing the normal TMPGenc template it came out right.

    newbie . i am . so. sorry.

    What is this Interlaced anyway?

Every day i learn 1/2 new thing.

Here we have frames 1 and 2

Because of the NTSC standard, the video must progress at 29.97 frames per second. Now movies and tv shows are filmed at 23.4 frames per second.

To ensure a smooth video, frames 1 and 2 are combined to produce frame 3.

    So we have

    Interlaced: 1, 2, 3

    Non-interlaced 1, 2

    I hope that helps
