I trying to help out a guy at work.... he got the 1633s for x-mas. Firmware is BS0C as reported by DVDinfopro.

Does this drive have a rip-lock?

If so what firmware are you using to get around it?

    Thanks,
    JSB

    JSB,

I use the lates firmware BS0S. I was ripping single layer stamped disk on weekend, and it was ripping at 13x. Wow! It is ripping dual layer stamped dvds at 5~6~7~8x.

    Here is link to firmware:

  5. There is no video riplock. But like all drives, it slows down the ripping speed for certain types of media (such as dual-layer).

Anyway, I think that this will answer your question:

  9. I have this drive and it works great ripping speed and setting bit type setting. Maybe in 6 months or so the 4X Dual Layer burning firmware will come into play...who knows.
hmmm that's interesting they seem to have taking away the pdf file announcing the soon to be released firmware for this dvd drive. Oh well it'll be out when it's out.

  10. OK, I have Nero 6.6.01 and the LiteOn 1633S with the latest firmware BS0S. Where do I locate the booktype setting? I've looked everywhere. Are you sure this drive allows booksetting changes in Nero?

    Thanks.

You have to go into "Nero CD-DVD Speed", then select "Extra" from the menu, then select "Bitsetting".

  12. There is no "bitsetting" in any of my Nero programs, including the Nero CD-DVD speed. Is this option blocked by LiteOn's firmware?

  16. Well guys, I am happy to report that thanks to your assistance I was able to use the utility you pointed me to and do flawless burns.
I've been reading in the forums how some are claiming there's no benefit to doing DVD+R booktype to DVD-ROM burns instead of just DVD-R. Are there really benefits to playing the disks (DVD+R booktype changed to DVD-ROM) on older players?

    Thanks.
