  1. I'm looking to install a remote video solution for a hall to a small room, distance over 200ft. Basically the hall needs to have a camera that sends a signal to a television in a small room elsewhere in the building.

Does anyone know of what kind of equipment to get for this type of setup?

I've narrowed it down to the bare minimums:
    - a camera (don't know what type though)
    -low-loss cabling for that distance
    -signal booster
    -tv for the small room

The hall also has two projectors set up, and a bonus would be to have it all connected together so that the camera could also display the image that it captures onto the screens. However, there might be a need to also get a video mixer.

Who should I contact? What companies?

What quality do you want and how much do you want to spend?

A low cost system can be put together with a surveillance type color Sony camera. They have interchangeable lens and get a quite good picture. The amount of lighting is important also. The distance for cabling is not really a problem. I run a similar camera over 230 feet over six conductor phone wire with no problems. You also have to consider a good sound system and microphones, etc., if you are taping lectures. Here's some inexpensive cameras:

If you are looking for a little more high end solution, here's a few:

If you are getting to that level, you probably would have a company set up the system. Probably in the range of $5000US or so. Or it can go a lot higher with mixers and a distribution system.

  3. I was also considering getting a MiniDV camera instead too since our "video team" at the church needs an extra camera. Would that be feasable?

Extron makes the premium line of instutional video distribution equipment.

They have good tutorials. This assumes you want to distribute baseband video and audio.

Two ways to proceed. Low loss long cable (expensive) or equalizing amp.

This equalizing amp will do the job out to 1000 ft.

They also make distribution amps to drive the projectors. Call them or a local dealer for pricing and application help.

PS: poor man's solution would be to use a vcr at the sending end to drive RF output (Ch 3 or 4) into standard 200+ ft RG59 or RG6 (CATV) cable into the RF input on the remote TV. Tune to Ch 3 or 4.

This solution trades video quality for some cost.
