  1. Hi

I Have a NTSC Minidv camcorder ( Panasonic PV-GS400) and
was planning to burn my minidv tapes to DVD using a DVD recorder.

But I also have family in Asia and wanted to burn DVDS using
the same DVD recorder in PAL too.

Is it possible ? Coz according to what I underatnd most multisystem
    DVD recorders can burn from

    NTSC to NTSC

    PAL to PAL

    BUT NOT NTSC to PAL

The only way it can be done is using a separate converter box
to convert from NTSC to PAL & then burn a PAL DVD.

Has anyone bought or tested a DVD recorder which can directly
burn from a NTSC signal to a PAL DVD without a external converter.

Can anyone recomend me good DVD recorders which could do
    the above.

Really appreicate all the help I could get.

    Thanks in advance.

I use a Cyberhome DVD player that converts from one format to the other.....then into my Philips DVDR985 DVD Recorder.
DVD Recorders that are able to record both NTSC and PAL will only record a "true" signal....they will not record a quasi signal so the player you choose(if you choose this method) MUST perform a "true" conversion.
Basically if the DVD player converts it FOR you without requiring any menu changes or a button press on the remote....it is outputting a quasi signal and will not work(common in European DVD players going from NTSC to PAL).

  3. yeah,

it might be better to send money to your asian people and have them buy a DVD player that is multiformat.

  4. Seeing that most of the players in Canada that are all region or all region hackable and can convert PAL to NTSC are made somewhere in East Asia, they probably already have a player that does the same .

  5. Thanks For the reply !

I was under the impression that DVD recorders like Liteon 5001 series
could record in both NTSC/PAL, but it seems like these DVD recorders
only burn in 1 format ( NTSC or PAL) depending upon the input signal.

NTSC as input signal would record in NTSC
PAL input would record in PAL

and the Video output could be configured for either NTSC or a PAL
    TV

But it seems no DVD recorder can directly write a

NTSC Input to a PAL DVD Format.

Purchasing a Mutlisystem DVD Player would help , but only if
its a one user not in a multi user scenario.

Would prefer to find a PAL DVD burning Format.

To be honest....the whole world is leaps and bounds ahead of the U.S. as far a being able to play "another" or foreign format.
I would just send what you are able to make....it will most likely work itself out on the other end.

  7. Thanks hech54 !

I apologize for not reponding to your post before !

I really liked your idea , I currently own a mintek 1600 Dvd

player, which can play NTSC & PAL DVDs but without any menu changes

So would have to look into buying a DVD player which could do a

    True conversion.

Thanks for the quasi signal tip ! I didn't have a clue about that
