    Hi!

I am researching Projectors – I need to purchase one very soon.

I’ve had so much great help from this place in the past, so I want to pick your brains with a few questions.

Other than the Projector Lamp, what needs to be replaced on a Projector over time (wear and tear issues)?

I just wanna make sure I cover all of my bases and make sure I know all of the future costs and what I’m getting in to here.

    Thanks a lot!!

At least with mine, the only maintenance is replacing the projector bulb and the air filter for the projector. I have a Sony VPL-HS2. LCD type.

I have 1628 hours on my bulb and it's still going strong, so I don't see bulb replacement as much of a problem. You do need good ventilation because projectors put out a lot of heat. I clean the filter a couple of times a year and I have both a new bulb and a new filter standing by if needed.

    Hi.

    redwudz…thanks for your help!

How much is it to replace an air filter?

I have both a new bulb and a new filter standing by if needed.
    This is a great idea

    Thanks again!

I'm not sure now how much a new air filter is. It is only about 3 inches square, so I imagine less than $10 US. I have carefully cleaned mine about 3 times so far and it still works well.

My projector has a on-screen overheat warning and also a lamp use indicator in the setup menu that is supposed to warn me when the bulb has reached its projected lifespan.. Probably most of them have a similar setup.

One thing to remember if you plan to transport any projector is to let it cool down throughly before moving to avoid shock to the bulb. Try to avoid any sharp jolts to it, even when cool, and you should get maximum life from the bulb.
