  1. I mostly capture to mpg per lordsmurf's suggested settings with my ATI 9000, but recently my wife misunderstood a phone conversation and captured a movie to the ATI .vcr format. For the life of me I can't figure out how to get it to .mpg.

I found a March '04 post from teegee, but I don't understand it.

"Open ATI Library, right click your VCR file and select "convert to mpeg-2". I'd advise against capturing to VCR files. Unless you don't mind converting everytime you want to edit. I prefer mpg."

I can't find anything like an ATI Library or convert to mpeg-2 anywhere in my options. I must be missing something basic here. Any help?

ATI Mutlimedia Library is one of the programs included with Mutlimedia Center.. if you don't have it installed, you can either install it from your CD or download it at www.ati.com. Once you run it, you won't be confused at all. Just open the .vcr file you're looking for, right click it and save as an MPEG-2.

Edit: It might be called "File Library".. either way, just download MMC from ati.com, and you'll see it.

  4. I had the same problem with my AIW saving a show as a .vcr although I selected DVD quality. I thought it showed to be saving as an mpg2 file. When I tried to open it with Ulead MediaStudio, it didn't see it. I tried the save as mpg2 in the Library, but it didn't change anything. How do I edit this file and save it to DVD?

  5. I guess I don't really know. I did what CaZeek said to do downloading the Library from the ATI web site and then exported my .vcr file to mpg2 the way he (I assume he) said to do it, and it worked fine. I think I'm using MMC 8.5 version. Be careful about updating your MMC from ATI. There are several versions/updates that the experts say not to use. I believe 8.7 has a good reputation.
