The subject says it all. I have a copy of Lord of the Rings in hbovcd format and when I play it in some players all I get is a blank black screen. One player, supposedly a VCD player came up with an error saying it didn't recognise the format.
Have I just downloaded a 211mB file for nothing?
Can it be fixed? Or do I need a special codec?

  2. First off, HBOVCD is not a format it is a VCD rls group, and a SHITTY one at that. Not even worth the time/effort to download, let alone watch. Is the file in BIN/CUE (from the RAR files)? if so u must burn it using CRWin, Fire Burner, or Nero (not the best for BIN/CUEs but itll work most of the time). If it's an MPEG you need to burn it as a VCD using Nero (recommended) or EZCD (not the best, but it will work). VCDs are MPEG-1 videos, meaning that theres no CoDec you need since DVD players recognize MPEG-1/2 streams (thats their purpose). Besides that fact, if there was a CoDec you needed, then you wouldnt be able to play it on the DVD player (its not capable of the COmpression/DECompression needed to play files such as DivX, ASF, nAVI, etc). And as for it being 211mb, thats damn small for a VCD so its either a) not complete, or b) re-encoded to an nAVI, DivX, or ASF (meaning the DVD Player wont play it due to the CoDec issue) with the group giving credit to HBOVCD. Lastly, this is the kind of reason i dont recommend ANY P2P (peer2peer) filesharing progz. Try to get stuff of topsites, but since most ppl dont know what those are or how to access them, at least try for IRC distros or FTPs.
hope that helps, if u need more help, just post a response and ill try to help.

PS. "I need to see this movie..." what will happen if u don't will u die? the movie does look entertaining but is not on my list of movies i want see, but even if it was i dont think id be saying "I need to see it" heh, just a thought.

  3. I have the same problem. The movie is in .avi. I tried to convert it to mpg in order to burn it as a vcd but no luck. After creating the .mpg file NERO gives me an error because the file uses an unrecognized streamer. Any idea how to solve this?

BTW the 211 mb file is only half the movie.
