  1. Anyone know a good app to format "free Space" on a hard drive?

I know the old Norton system works I used to have 2000 or 2002 had it but my new 2004 doesn't have it?

    Thanks

Try Sure Delete File Shredder (Freeware) HERE or Super Shredder (also Freeware)HERE.

I am pretty sure that Sure Delete will wipe free space as well, see screenshots on the site. I'm not sure about Super Shredder doing that.

I'm sure there are many more freeware file shredders, try Download.com for more.

Window Washer will also do this. In fact you can set it up automatically if you want to do this often. If you are doing this for security reasons, you can set it for multiple passes to ensure unwanted data is irrecoverable. http://www.webroot.com/products/windowwasher?rc=266&ac=383

The freeware program UltraWipe also can securely clean freespace. http://www.snapfiles.com/get/ultrawipe.html

  4. qtparted is a Partition Magic clone that you could use. You can find it on the system rescue cd, found here: www.sysresccd.org
after booting with the cd in type run_qtparted at the prompt.

If you like the command line and no install routine, check out Sdelete
