  1. I was wondering what kind of life expectency I can expect on my DVD burner if I am burning around 9 DVD's a week for the next 4 months?

It should be obsolete before it dies. Somewhat depends on the burner.

Some people here burn that many in a day and have been doing it with the same burner for a year or two.

The usual failure is dirt on the laser lens. Try to keep it clean and you should have no problems.

Depends on the quality of the burner and care given. My 3-year old burner has burned well over 1,000 disks and is still going strong.

  4. I agree, unless your burner is a lemon or a piece of shet model, 9 DVDs a week over 4 months is NOTHING compared to what some do with theirs. I've burned 30+ in a day several times before, no problems for my NECs .

  5. I agree with all above posts. I guess it depends on the burner. 9 is nothing, I was averaging 14/wk (at least 2 a day) for about a year w/ my NEC until it became obsolete (too slow actually - only 4x R and 2.4x RW). My Pioneer has been going strong and I don't expect it to go out before also becoming obsolete (due to Blue Ray)

  7. I've had my Nec for about six months now and have burned close to a thousand movies so far with no problems. I can't see why you shouldn't get at least a couple of years of service even under severe usage. Dvd writers are so cheap these days that it's not a big deal to me anyway. If it lasts a year I'll be happy.

  8. I upgrade about every 18 months or so and now have NEC. I've never had one break on me so I would not worry if I was you.

    Unproper and proud of it
