  1. Hi all. I 'm using Vegas5 to capture, edit and encode a home movie.

I was wondering what your thoughts were on the Sony MainConcept Encoder that Vegas5 uses to encode MPEG-2.

I've used TMPGENC before and it works just fine for me. I was wondering....

How do i get my EDITIED file out of Vegas5 and into TMPGENC?

  2. I use Vegas 4 and use the DebugMode Frameserver to frameserve a "fake" .avi file to Tmpenc. It works very well...and it's free!
I'd rather have a bottle in front of me than a frontal lobotomy.

  3. Yeah frameserving would be the best way,But Sonys MainConcept Encoder, Is very very good ,much better the the stand alone MainConcept Encoder "IMO" ,and alot faster then Tmpgenc's encoder,I also like the quailty better.

It all depends on your settings in the MC encoder. It produces DECENT results. IMHO, I agree with Yngwie. Frameserve to TMPGEnc (or better yet Procoder) for better results. As far as Vegas as an NLE? I think it's the best out there.

Most of the Prosumer level advanced commercial editing programs (e.g. Adobe Premiere Pro, Sony Vegas, ULead and others) have chosen the Mainconcept encoders. Quality is right up there with the best of them. Individual opinions may vary.
