  1. I am trying to compress down a vob file from one of my movies. I am tring to use the mpeg 4 mencoder codec, 2326 kb/s, which has sometimes worked in the past.

When I try to open the file, edit it and cut out parts I don't want, I save the resulting avi as an .mov, QT keeps crashing. Any suggestions to try? Could it be Qt preferences, ram problems, etc?

I have a dual 1 ghz MDD, so hardware shouldn't be a problem.

    thanks

  2. Your bitrate seem extremely high. Which is the byte size of the AVI file?

  3. The byte size of the file is 450 MB. The data rate is 286 kb/s. The ffmpeg info says

    Video: XVID, 720x480, 24 bpp 29.97 fps, 2326 kbps (284 kbyte/s) audiocode: framecopy (format=55, chans=2 rate = 48000, bits=0, bps=16000, sample=1.

I used the mpeg4 avi mencoder codec option. I didn't change the recommended setting, 2326 was highlighted in green. Some others i did this way worked, others don't.

    thanks for the help

  4. If you want to save it as .mov and edit it in Quicktime Player, it is best to encode it with the "MOV mpeg-4" preset. Otherwise you should run DivX Doctor II on the AVI file.
