hey everyone i just had a couple of questions.
can you burn a dvd with just a regular cd burner.
if so does anyone know know what software i could use, i have been searching forever trying to figure this out.
i downloaded 1 click dvd ripper but when i go to the wizard it says open ifo or vod files and the file i downloaded from a friend is an avi file.
im just alittle confused on what to do and was hoping someone could help me out.
any help would be so appreciated
thanks so much

Don't cross-post. One topic per subject please.
This belongs in the newbie forum .... -
You certainley do have a lot to read up on here, first thing is No you can't. Rather than going back in time here you really need to invest in a DVD burner (not that much more than a cd burner these days) and read this site because once you do you will then need a program to encode avi to mpeg and a program to author and burn the disc.
I could dance with you till the cows came home..... on second thoughts i'd rather dance with the cows till you came home.

Here is the trifecta
It is impossible to burn a dvd with a cd burner. -
Wait...
It's not quite impossible
Get Nerovision Express, and create a "Mini-DVD".
It will ONLY play on a computer though. I know of no standalone players that it will work on.Cheers, Jim

Not worth it. Go and get yourself a dvd burner.
They're priced pretty well now so most people can buy one. Good luck badkittyy.Life is like a pothole, you just have to learn to get around it. -
You can squeeze about 20 minutes onto one CDR, but at a much better quality than (S)VCD. Great for short demos, tutorial vids, etc. Especially nice for cross-platform stuff, where .wmv or .avi just won't work.

My last player worked fine with mini-DVD's. I think my current one does to. With mini-DVD you could say have VCD spec mpeg1, but with a proper menu and 192k AC3 instead of 224k mp2. You would fit a lot more than 20mins per CD. Still not as much as a VCD though, due to no mode2 form2.

Not necessarily.
There are still outfits claiming to have "1-click" dvd backup solutions, even if you don't own a dvd burner!
They're either writing (S)VCD, or mini-dvd, and charging exorbitant amounts for their software.
one example: ezdvdcopy.com claims "...allow you to copy virtually any DVD, using a CD-R..."Cheers, Jim

NO I think with as many, so called "Computer Experts" out there he probally got fed a bull answer. Some friend, tell him you'll be over and he can show you how. He could probally make a hampster come out of his arse too! Beware of folks that can tell you, but not show you. Oh, wait my "Easy Bake Oven" just got through burning a DVD, I'll be right back. :P
