    Evening everyone.

I'm looking for some info here on this issue I'm having w/ a few of
my DV cams and my ADVC-100 and a project I finally am trying out.
Mind you, I'm experimenting with the idea of feeding only digital
source to my ADVC-100 or DV CAM.

    Anyways.

    Ok. Here goes.

If I wanted to hook up my ADVC-100 (which can output Digital) to my
DV CAM so that I can record to DV tape, is there a specific type of
firewire cord that I need to make this happen ??

I can't seem to get this to work with my current firewire cables.

I hooked up the FW cable from my cams' 4-pin, and output the other
6-pin end to the back end of my ADVC-100 's 6-pin FW connector.
I then connected my working FW cable (the one that I normally used
to connect to my ADVC-100 or DV cams) to my ADVC-100 and tried to
capture some video. But, all I get is a black screen.

    FWIW ...

One thing I did notice (inside my RsDvCap.exe capture app) was that
it now containted two DVCAM driver names, instead of the usual, ONE.
I tried selecting both, but still no video recorded.
    .
I also switched my ADVC-100 to Digital, because I'm assuming that I
am feeding a digital source. But, still no go. I'm missing something
here, but I don't know what it is.

Someone point me in the right direction please. Thanks.

Ok. I found the answer in another thread I was posting my questions to.

    * How To mix or dub TWO firewire devices together

In short. All you need is a 4-pin to 4-pin FW cable, and hook each other
together, and vualla. One can transfer DV digital data to another DV device
w/out being re-compressed to DV again.
    .
Use can use those Quick Connect kits that have diffrent heads. That was what
I used, because I could not find a store that carried a single 4-pin to 4-pin
    cable.

    Now for the reason ...

The reason why I was searching for this feature, was because I needed to
feed two DV cams together, so that I could shoot footage w/ one cam, while
the other one was recording to a miniDV tape.
    .
    But, before you ask why
    .
Because on my first cam, it has a feature that allows me to shoot video
in Progressive mode (29.970 fps full frames) and capture it to my hard drive
for further processing (encoding) projects, through normal channels.
    .
The problem was this. On this cam in question, in order to shoot footage
at full 29.970 fps progressive frames, the cam has to be set to MEMORY mode.
The problem here is this. MEMORY mode is not active during recording to a
miniDV tape. Doesn't make sense here. But who knows why they did this.
Maybe this was an over-looked glitch, bug or something. I don't know. But
if anything, consider it a ** hack for progressive video AVI's **
And the above is the steps and methods to obtain it.
    .
.. Its' my opinion that the Progressive'ness is obtain through what I
.. consider a Hardware deinterlace (maybe an Area Based method)
.. Even if MEMORY mode is the same as PHOTO mode, I can't speak w/ certanty
.. that's its true photo (or progressive, for that matter)
    .. .
.. But what I do know, is this. Its fantastic quality, considering the cam.
.. And, what great hack, if that's what it really is, to get Progressive frames.
.. Plus, the video is smooth, not jumpy or jittery in most de-interlace routines
.. used in other processes such as AVIsynth scripts.

So, i have a two other cams that I can use, for my off-line storage, as
if still using one cam and one miniDV tape to record to. I just need to
come up with a * RIG * that looks good to carry two (or more) cams together,
while one is the actual Cinema cam
    .
    Look out Hollywood.

Serious though, this has ben a fun experimetn/project that I have been waiting
a very long time for. I was just too lazy and very big on procrastination.
