  1. I usually transfer tapes using Vegas5, but for a project upcoming I need to transfer part of a tape with VFW information in order to import it to alamDV. Is there a program that would allow me to do this directly so I don't have to re-encode the tape in VV5 (thus avoiding a generational loss)?

I'm not getting it, you have VFW on what kind of tape?
Define what you have. I assume you want it to be in DV format when you are done.

  3. no...the miniDV tape is in whatever format the Panasonic put on it. I need to get the tape onto the PC in VFW so it can be edited up with alamDV.

I could just transfer the tape through VV5, but alamDV doesn't like the file saying it isn't VFW or MOV format.
