  1. Allright guys,

Does anyone remember Marathon (made by Bungie)? You can now download it for free, along with an emulator to allow the game to run. Here's the link:

Great fun! I remember playing Marathon 2: Durandal on an Apple LCII (based on the Motorola 16MHz 68LC020), in a tiny window at low resolution. The game looks so much better now on a 2400MHz AMD64!

It's dead simple to set up - if you've got ten minutes to spare, why not give it a shot? I know that the network play is a lot of fun - I wonder if there is any way to organise a game online between us guys, and somehow make it appear that we are all networked. It doesn't take much bandwidth - I remember connecting two Macs together via. a printer cable that could transfer data at a whopping 1.4KB/sec and we had some great games.

Anyway, let's see if anyone has it or tries it and likes it enough to play online.

I used to play this thing all the time on an old mac laptop I had, probably 8 years ago. It's awesomeness to the maximus.

Heh, I posted this when Bungie released the game for download a few weeks ago but it got moved to the Mac forum :P

I was a huge Marathon fan back in the day. Had a hand in the EVIL and Tempus Irae mods for Infinity, really the only game I ever gave much effort into making maps and mods. I used to know the story pretty well, which was my favorite part of the trilogy, but it's been years since I've played it so I'd have to go over to Hamish Sinclair's site and read up again. I've been following Aleph One for a while but was having troubled converting the Mac HFS CDs I had to the required PC files, at least until about a month ago. I've been playing Infinity a little but have been waiting for a less buggy release of M1 so I can start from the beginning. I'm hoping I can convert the mods I've got as well.

We were supposed to play this at the LAN party I was at this weekend but we never got around to it. I don't know how well the multiplayer functionality works for the port.

I wish EVIL could be ported to run on the PC as well. It was brilliant - especially the happy faces on the front of a rocket...

  7. To the dark side of computing, I have turned. The light of Apple I can see, but unable to grasp it am I. Emulate happiness however, I can.

I think you can port all the mods but I think you need a Mac and some software to first convert the Mac files into something readable by Aleph One for PC. I still need to find which application can make HFS archives which I could then read with my HFS viewer. Versiontracker didn't seem to have anything.
