I'm the proud new owner of a Mitsubishi 62" DLP (WD-62525) HDTV. HDTV is amazing, regular TV (4:3) is "good" at best, but the general consensus seems to be the set is not designed for analog 4:3 tv, so that's not where it shines.
Admittedly, Digital TV and DVD's look pretty darn good. Which brings me to my question. I've been reading alot about DVD UPCONVERTING players, which convert a standard DVD to 720p or 1080i giving you "HD" dvd's ... now, my TV has a VGA port, to which I have my HTPC (home theater pc) connected running 1200x666 resolution at 720p (1280x720 the native resolution for the tv produces alot of "overscan", and I loose about 1 inch or so all the way around the desktop or image being displayed, where as 1200x666 is nearly picture perfect on the screen).
My HTPC is running Windows media center edition 2004, and I also have powerDVD and WinDVD installed. Would playing a DVD on my HTPC produce the same effect and quality of "upconverting" a dvd to HD as one of these $200 upconverting DVD players would? Trying to see if spending the extra money would produce any better results.
THANKS IN ADVANCE.
