HONG KONG (Reuters) - Hong Kong police arrested 26 people in a raid on a live sex show near the territory's trendy party district.

The 26, 17 men and nine women, were arrested early on Sunday morning at the "Fetish Fashion" sex shop in Central District for "participating and offering live performance indecent or obscene in nature," police said.

They included the proprietor of the shop, three female performers and customers from Hong Kong and overseas, police said. They were released on bail of between $65 and $385 pending formal charges.

The offence carries a maximum penalty of one year in jail and $3,200 in fine.

Police said five undercover officers entered the shop in Hong Kong's central district late on Saturday for a performance titled "Mixed Play Party." Police said some of the performers carried out sadomasochistic acts on audience members, which included the use of leather whips.

An advertisement for the event, which was still on the company Web site on Monday, said tickets cost $45 each, including soft drinks and snacks. The dress code was "leather, uniform and fetish" and ladies would be admitted for free.

It said the show would feature "Mistress Jesika" from San Francisco, who had "a wide range of interests and enjoyed working with women and couples as well as obedient male (subjects).

"She especially welcomes beginners," it said.

The shop near Hong Kong's trendy night spot SOHO sells sex toys, clothes and accessories catering to bondage, domination and sado-masochism and offers "play rooms."

Police said they had been investigating the case since February, when they received tip-offs about sex shows.

A woman who answered the phone at the shop on Monday said it would not open on Monday and was not sure when business would resume.

Sex is rarely talked about openly in Hong Kong, where traditional Chinese people still regard the subject as being embarrassing or even shameful, but the territory has a thriving sex trade and some newspapers have supplements on night life including brothel reviews.

HONG KONG (Reuters) - Hong Kong police arrested five gay rights activists for disorderly conduct after they staged the territory's first sado-masochism protest against a recent raid on a live sex show.

About 10 men and women, who called themselves "Rainbow Action," marched across Hong Kong's central district to a police station on Sunday, sporting leather outfits and chains and mock whipping each other through the streets.

When they arrived, a hooded demonstrator tied another in bondage gear to the police station's gate.

Scuffles broke out when officers tried to cut him free him and demonstrators tried to force their way into the station.

The protest was sparked by a police raid on a local sex shop on August 12 during a sadomasochistic party. Twenty-six people were arrested.

The group accused police of applying double standards in determining what constitutes an indecent performance. They said police were more tolerant of broadcasters who show programs which they said were just as indecent.

The five arrested were led away by police in handcuffs.

Police said all have been released on bail of $128.
