About 3 weeks ago my computer crashed and I had to reformat the hard drives and reinstall all my programs. Before the crash, I was getting rip speeds of about 8x, now I'm LUCKY if I can maintain 1X rip!
What could settings could have changed so drastically?
I get the same speeds whether I use my Matshita DVD-ROM drive or my Emprex DVD-R drive. It also makes no difference whether I rip to the internal Hard Drive or to my external USB drive.
I'm using DVD Decrypter 3.5.2 to rip.
Could this be a firmware issue? I was under the impression that firmware was not erased with a hard drive format. How do I check for which firmware I have installed, and also for which firmware I SHOULD have installed?
Any help would be greatly appreciated, as it's taking me 2 hours to rip DVD's now!
Coincidentally, it feels like Shrink is taking a lot longer to process my files as well.
Thanks
Kyle

Right click on My Computer and go to hardware/device manager and then to the IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers and double click on either the primary or secondary IDE channel, whichever your DVD rom is connected to.
Under Advanced settings make sure the transfer modes are set to DMA if available. -
And if you find that you can't enable DMA, did you remember to load the motherboard chipset drivers?

Sure enough, it was set to PIO mode, whatever that is. I switched it to DMA, and I'm in business again. Thanks!
