  1. When I try to encode the vob file to avi file, My computer crashes. I can encode about 20 to 30% of file and then it will crash. When I say crash I mean it will restart my computer. I can encode small files in the order of 300MB but when i try files about 700MB to 1GB it won't work. I have a AMD 1.33GHz thunderbird with 768MB of RAM and 50GB of HD space and I'm using win2k professional. I tryed XMPEG, FLASK, and TMPGEnc and they all do the same thing. I ripped just chapters and not whole movies and the ripp works fine. Could this be that i'm not having enough resources or not fast enough computer? What could cause this problem?

Thanks in advance for the help

  2. Your system is not the prob unless somethings screwed up in your OS. Try using DVD2AVI, then the VFAPI plugin (or avisynth, whichever one you haven't tried) to convert to an avi in VirtualDub.

Also try re-ripping your VOB's, cause they might have got corrupted somehow.

  3. I tried dvd2avi and it still didn't work. But i found an error message that occurs when the program crashes. It says "The ATI WDM Teletext Decoder service failed to start due to the following error:
The service cannot be started, either because it is disabled or because it has no enabled devices associated with it. " I have a ATI TV card and a ATI radeon all in wonder card and I have a 3d prophet card. I had the prophet card in my computer and before that i had a radeon card in my computer. I thought it had to do with the video card so i installed the ati card and it still does the same thing. WHat does this error message mean?
    Thanks

  4. I don't know as I'm an Nvidia fan, all I can suggest is re-rip the vobs, and close all the background apps using ctrl-alt-del.

You might try and locate the wdm drivers for win2000, for win98,me the program is called wrapper, but not sure if this will work for win2000. this may fix the problem, I had to load them when I upgraded my ati drivers.

  6. You have a device driver which cannot connect to its hardware, namely the on-screen text for your ATi card, not sure form your post which one. ATI picky about device drivers (LOL). Uninstall all video cards in control panel, reboot standard VGA or Safe Mode, reboot and install latest drivers or whichever ones work best, ONLY for currently installed cards. Did I mention ATi cards are picky about device drivers?

  7. Actually you might want to do more than simply uninstall. It is a good idea to boot anything ATI out of your registry and remove all ATI inf files from the C:\windows\inf folder. ATI makes great hardware but their software coders should be shot....if only ATI could buy some of NVIDIA's coders.....

Actually, I worry that if NVIDIA gets too dominant quality will go down and prices go up (see: Microsoft for reference) so you should WANT ATI to compete
