if i burn Mp3 files to a DVD disc instead and then try and play it on a DVD Player, will the songs play. Or would i have to change the Mp3's from 44,000 to 48,000 Hz so it's compatible with a DVD, you know like DVD audio parts on a Music video are recorded at 48,000hz.
This way you could burn hundreds of files on a DVD disc and have hours of music rather than a CD disc which only holds 700 MB's.
    Thanks.

I think this varies from DVD player to DVD player.

I have a DVD player that won't read Data DVD's not matter what on them. But it can read Data CD's with jpeg's, mp3's, or mpeg's or all three.

I have used a protable DVD player that will read Data DVD's with these files.

Probably newer ones are more likely to read Data DVD's
    snappy phrase

    I don't know what you're talking about.

  4. VEBouto - it's not clear from your post whether you're talking about burning your mp3 files to CD as data, or authored as an audio CD, and there is a significant difference.

Most CD/DVD burning apps (e.g. Nero) will take mp3's and burn them onto an audio CD if you want - they will decode the files first, and you can still only get 80min of audio onto your CD (unless you overburn etc..). However, this disc will now play on almost all audio CD players.

If you burn mp3s as data onto a CD, you can get a lot of audio on there in terms of time (depending on the bitrate of the mp3s), but you'll need a player which can decode the mp3s to listen to them on anything other than a computer. More and more audio CD players can decode mp3, but it's still not all that common. A lot of DVD players can play mp3s burnt as data to CDs though.

Similarly with DVDs, there are different ways of authoring/burning the mp3s to your disc. If you simply burn them as data on to a disc, your DVD player may or may not be able to play them back. There are now a few audio systems which can read DVD discs, but I'm not sure if they support mp3 as data/ISO or not.

There is a format for authoring/burning DVDs as audio discs, but I can't see it on the what is DVD page (links on the top left). For this, I would presume that the audio needs to be 48,000khz.

Players that can read mp3s as data (whether from a CD or DVD) tend to be able to support a variety of bitrates and sampling rates (as well as having support for joint stereo, VBR etc...). As far as I know there are few real standards for mp3s as data like this, so support differs from one machine to another.

As bazooka says, the best thing is to try a few different ways of doing it & see what works in the players you want to listen to your mp3s on. Don't be surprised though if something works in one player but not another. Perhaps use a RW disc to save making coasters.

    I hope that's some help!

    cheers,
    theDruid.

I have burned MP3 files to DVD with Nero and have enjoyed many hours
    of uninterupted music.
You will find that many DVD players will play MP3 Cd's but not MP3 DVD's.
I have two units that work well. One is a small DVD player from Koss,
model DVP 2165 and the other is a cheap Apex, model 3800 combo.
The latest DVD has over 50 albums (CD's) on it at encoded at 160Kbps.
Plays well on the PC through WIMP and WinAmp.
PC sound and stand alone DVD players are both routed through
    a 5.1 surround system.
