Has anybody noticed that the www.wormintheapple.gr site is down? This is the great site that was hosting MacTheRipper, DVDBackup, as well as all those drive firmware updaters and other goodies.
Here is a message I got when I emailed the site admin:
The WormInTheApple / MacDVD web sites are down - probably for good.
From the start, this site was a non-profit ad-free project maintained of my spare time, with the help of a couple of friends who donated the server and their time to maintain the site. Over the years most of them went on to other things, and for the past few months I maintained the site alone on my spare time, a task which became gradually more difficult with my increasing work load.
Lately the person who had donated the download server for the past few years notified me that he could no longer support this site. Since I cannot afford the bandwidth costs of the download server, I have to close the site down. In any case I have no time to maintain it alone anymore. There is a small possibility I will reactivate the site if I can find someone to donate the web space and I get some help in setting it up with a PHP engine so I don't have to update it manually. But this is not very likely, since I don't have much spare time anymore.
I want to thank those who helped me set up and maintain this site through the years. It's been great.
The Worm In The Apple.

damn, there went our mail server too... looks like we're gonna need some help if we want MTR to stay online and widely distributed... I might be able to do something like have the site on my iDisk if I can find someone to host the binary download... Anyways, I kinda hope it wasn't the popularity of MTR that brought them down, but I think it might have something to do with it, since about 70,000 downloads at 1 MB a piece in a few weeks makes for a hefty bandwidth bill...
I like systems, their application excepted. (George Sand, translated from French), "J'aime beaucoup les systèmes, le cas d'application excepté." -
It looks like ripdifferent.com might be offering us hosting for MTR, complete with a new website, download site, email account, and possibly a dedicated forum section. Seems it will be quite a better setup than what we had if we can get this working. It's a damn shame for the rest of the MacDVD downloads, which were very handy, and might still have been up if we hadn't used up all those resources, but at least for our project, it seems this cloud might have a silver lining.

I just got a call from the ripdifferent.com webmaster, and it looks like it's confirmed (wooooohooooo). We should be back in business very soon now. Let's hear it for the ripdifferent.com site for keeping us alive!
