Hello there!
For over a week now, I keep trying to create a SVCD with toggleable (is that a word?) subtitles. I've been through all the motions with SubRip and I-Author, burned the .cif with Adaptec Easy CD, or alternatively with a dev version of VCDImager that doesn't cough on subtitles and burned the image with cdrwin.
Still, my Toshiba 210E refuses to display subs. I also tried every sample image with subtitles found on the net. No success.
Is there anyone that can confirm the Toshi's general ability to display subtitles on SVCDs as is stated in this site's compatibility list?
Maybe with a commercial SVCD with "official" subtitles?
Perhaps it's just I-Authors' non-standard CVD instead of the SVCD approved OGT subs?
Thanks very much.

I think your probably right. I-Author's subs don't conform to the SVCD standard so there is no guarantee they will play.
Even if your player does support the official svcd subs the only program which can currently author svcds in such a manner is philips svcd designer, which only runs on NT. Unless your willing to use this program you might as well give up on soft encoded subs. -
I telephoned Toshiba UK about its ability to play SVCD's , because mine plays them out of sync(audio/vision)
Toshiba is adamant that the Toshiba 210E does not play SVCD's . and therefore will not give any help on the subject of SVCD's.

adam, it's apparently even worse: that Philips creature will allegedly only play with Windows NT4. After wrestling Win2k down there's no way I'll install NT4 just to test that crappy app...
I have still hope that we'll have an other non-sucking programm to do standardized OGT subtitles sometime. I heard that hvr of VCDImager fame is tentatively looking into it. I hope there's some at least alpha stuff to play with soon.
I mean, come on, there are about half a dozen encoders, muxers and authoring frontends to choose from but not a single OGT subtitler... (not to dismiss the efforts of the many developers out there. I love you all. Really!
echinopsis, got to love those corporate drones, HAH!
