Is it possible to put two dvd movies on one DL dvd and separate them I guess is the word, so you can choose what one to watch, with say, a homemade menu?

  2. it certainly is - many ways you can do that. Re author from scratch with your assets, or make a menu selection in an author program, then join that with the 2 other dvd's in dvd remake pro, and then use dvd shrink to shrink to dl size.

btw, your avatar is a violation of copywright - unless you have a license to use the DVD logo, i'd suggest you change it to something else b4 the mod's have a go at you.

    1. Make the two dvds into two iso. files with shrink

    2. Construct the menu with an editing program

  6. i do it like this.

make a vmg menu system with dvd lab pro. I make it all nice and nice, with buttons linking to 2 dummy vmg menus. These i use, so that i keep the buttons and their links. Compile this out to a dvd folder on the hdd.

I then rip both the dvd's (iso, or original) onto a dvd folder on the hdd.

now you have 3 dvd folders on your hdd.

Import the first dvd folder (the one with ur menu) in, and then import the 1st of the 2 dvd's your want to join, and then select merge dvd's.

save this project, and then import the third dvd in.

Now you have a mess, with multiple vmg menus, multiple vts's everything. Get out a piece of paper, and write down the flow, from first play everything. I usually remove all the superfluous bits like dolby intro, title warnings, trailers and stuff. Then adjust all the pre and post commands, to be virtually linear jumping. By that i mean, sometimes even before the dvd movie has started playing, the laser head has moved over the whole disc searching. Just make sure, that your first play item ends up with your menu that you made in your edit/author package. And that the buttons you made in that menu, link to the original first play items in each dvd. It takes a while to do all this, as you basically have to be careful with registers and the like. Its tricky, because now once you are in one of the movies, there is usually no default way to get back to ur dvd selection menu. I usually assign the title button to this menu though. so you lose any origianly title button functionality for each dvd.

If you want to make all your own menus, then there are plenty of ways to skin the cat. Probably the easiest way IMO is to load each title into TMPGEnc DVD Author, create your menus and then DVDShrink the output.

However, if you want to retain all of the original menus, AFAIK DVDRemake Pro is the only software that can do this ATM. It creates a simple menu, from which you choose which DVD you want to watch, and then you're taken to the original menu of that DVD. There might be some useful information in this thread.
    If in doubt, Google it.

  9. Intervideo DVDCopy 3 has a DVD merge feature where it can combine 2 movies to one disc. I haven't tried it though.

I find its transcodes higher quality and faster than DVD Shrink. They have a trial version on their site that you could try...

If you just wan the main movie from each disc, and then a simple menu to choose which one, I'd use TMPGEnc DVD Author and the Add DVD Video button, add both the main titles (to separate tracks), set up your menus, then output. Then you may need to run the output through DVDShrink to pull it down to DL size, or you can just omit any audio you don't require, and this should allow things to fit on a DL DVDR without having to actually shrink the video any.
    If in doubt, Google it.
