Ok,
I've made a disc, using 2 different hardware burners,
and so far, about 5 out of 12 people said that they cannot
play it in their standalone player,
I will try to get their models later and inspect it later.
I've used Nero to burn it.
I've used "-" and "+" R's,

DVDA makes very compliant dvd's ... but some players will not play burned disks ...
all i can suggest is to try a different brand of media or even using another app to burn your project ...."Each problem that I solved became a rule which served afterwards to solve other problems." - Rene Descartes (1596-1650) -
i just noticed you said you used nero to burn ... why not use DVDA ? and if not -- what settings did you use in neroa and which version of nero (it matters)

You know what, I'm going to try and reduce the bitrate from default 8MBps
to 7.5, then 5.0, and then try that,
Now that I've researched it a bit more, I hope that is the problem.
I will make a new thread on what bitrate they used. -
i strongly doubt it -- the default is perfectly fine

i promise you - in that case -- that is not your problem

I'm very certain that it's not the media (+ or -), nor Nero, nor the burner,
I've done many burns with those 3 aspects and my brother said that he
did not have a problem when I burned in the past,
I used Nero 6, by the way.
Plus, I've read that some stand alone players have problems reading
bitrates of over 7000, and that's from the Sony forum,
I just posted here to get other opinions.
And someone said that the average standard dvd bitrate is "5000"?????
Is that correct?
When I did my mpeg2 from Sony Vegas 5, the bitrate was around 4200. -
use bitrate view to get the correct true bit rate of your files ...
since i am the one who gave out a lot of the first advice (and still) on how to make dvd 's and encoding - in the sony vegas forums ... what i said there is 8000 is a good max usually from vegas/dvda
many commercial dvd's are around 5000-6000 , but since the source is much better - not a issue in many cases .."Each problem that I solved became a rule which served afterwards to solve other problems." - Rene Descartes (1596-1650) -
ok - i just found out a weird thing about DVDA that I did not know and i never saw anywhere else posted ..
the VOB file sizes that DVDA makes are non standard - but running the output through dvdshrink will fix them ... it also makes them harder to copy and read on some machines it has been reported ...
read about it here

@bj_m This is real news to me. That thread is a year old , I would think there would be an update. So a straight copy with shrink will fix it?I would have thought it wouldnt even want to read it.
I'll try this tomorow..Thanks for the heads up.. -
SonY got back to me and said that they fixed this issue in build of DVDA2 now available .. but it dos exist in older builds
