I've had my ilo dvdr04 for about a week now. On page 13 of the owners manual it says you can edit and rename the channels. I've tried to do it and all I get is a circle with a slash through it in the upper right corner of my screen. In other words,,,it doesn't except the command. I have my cable ran through my vcr then down to my dvdr. Should I have my cable hooked up directly to the dvdr? Everything else works great.

  2. In the setup area, there should be a place to edit the channel lineup and rename them, although, from what I've read, you can only use up to 5 letters for the name.

  3. dvdchanic, If you are using RCA (or S-Video) style plugs from your VCR to your ilo I can see what your problem is. You would then not be using the ilos built in tuner, but a line in. So there would be no way to edit your channels names, and have it show up when selecting AV1-Front\AV2-Rear\S-Video as your input. If you are using a Co-axial cable (screw on type) between your VCR and ilo, and have to change channels using the VCR, and you keep the ilo on channel 3 when doing this. Your problem is that the only channel you could rename on the ilo would be channel 3. Overall You would be best off getting a switch box, and not running your VCR into your ilo unit.

Thanx bobcat,,,guitarman for your input. I have my vcr ran into my dvdr04 with common rca plugs. I have an s-video cable ran from the dvdr directly to my tv, so I can hit the source button till I get the dvdr tuner and that works ok, but when I push the edit button nothing happens ecept for the small circle with a slash through it. The manual says when I push the edit button the "channel editor" should pop up but it don't. I guess this is just a minor problem since overall I'm very happy with it. The macro free hack works perfectly. I have alot of video tapes I've bought over the years and about 2/3 of them have the cp so as far as copying them to disk, I really like this machine. But what am I gonna do with all these remotes sitting all around my living room. Way too many gray ones. LOL I think I picked up the right one about 40% of the time. LOL

  5. Have you gone to the setup screen and set the tuner settings for cable and scan for channels?? The recorder may be acting like that because the channel scan hasn't been done so it is unaware of any channels existing, even though you may be able to manually select channels.

Yes guitarman. I went into setup, let it scan for the channels, even deleted some I don't use. The dvdr tuner works fine except for a humming noise and it being mono, but I can use the vcr tuner for serious recording. That's no problem. I just can't get to the channel editor screen when I push edit on the remote when I'm in dvdr tuner mode. I'm still wondering if I should run the outside cable directly through my ilo tuner instead of my vcr first. Everything except for the channel editor works like a charm. I have a maganavox dvd player ran through my front(1) ports and my sanyo vcr ran through my rear (2) ports. I can record from either the dvd player or my vcr. This is my second ilo dvdr04 and neither one of them would show me the channel editor screen so I doubt whether it's a malfunction with the ilo. Thanx again for your reply.
