I have a homemade DVD movie that is recorded onto a dual layer DVD disc. I am going to have it replicated by a replication company into a pressed DVD-9 disc. The replicator says that they cannot do the layer break that is necessary to do the replicaton. They need two single layer discs - One for one layer and the second disc for the second layer. Does anyone know how this can best be done? If it is split into two discs, how would the replicator restore the menu and file structure for what is one movie with one menu set?

    Hello,

I'm not an expert on dual layer recordables since I don't have one. But I do have a suggestion.

What if you used dvd shrink or another transcoder and select "SPLIT DISC" option??? That way you would probably retain the original format on to two single layer discs.

Worth a try or researching more.

    Good luck.

  3. DVD Shrink is NOT what you want. It's not a matter of simply splitting a disc arbitrarily.

The only possible use for DVD Shrink in this scenario would be to compress the disc to fit a DVD-R and then have THAT DISC replicated.

The standard format for DVD-9 replication is on 2 DLTs; one for each layer.

Which authoring package are you using?

You might want to check out Gear Pro Mastering Edition.
    http://www.gearsoftware.com/products/prof/index.cfm

That will allow you to calculate and insert a layer break and create a DDP image suitable for replication - assuming that the trial allows full functionality for the trial period...

Give it a try, see if it works.

DVD LAB Pro can also do this, but you would have to author again if you are currently using something else.

Thanks Freestyler. Gear Pro Mastering Edition is exactly what I am looking for.
