  1. I have a 640 by 272 avi divx 5 video that im planning to burn to a dvd so that i can play it on my tv. If i follow the avi to dvd mpeg tutorial i found on the site will i need to add those black boxes that appear above and below the video. Im not sure what they are called but when i burn it with nero 6 im afraid it will stretch the video on my tv and look really bad. I dont have a widescreen tv or hd or anything just a regular old tv.

    Thanks guys i appreciate it.

Create black space around the video until the total size is 720 x 576 (or 720 x 480 if you are in an NTSC country) in a program like TMPGEnc, and it will be fine.

The resolution doesn't determine the display aspect ratio for DVD compliant mpeg. It's determined by the video header(direct PC play) or the ifo file on a DVD. In other words you can have a 720x480 video that is either 4:3 or 16:9. The aspect is adjusted by the DVD player or the software on your PC, providing it's set to normal play.

Use software that supports widescreen, this includes whatever you use to author. Try out Ulead Video Studio 8....cheap, easy, and decent results.
