I haven't seen one of these in here yet so I thought I'd start it. Who here smokes cigars regularly or on occasion? Share your experiences with the rest of us.

My usual stick: Ashton Cabinets, usually No. 6 or 7. Love the Connecticut wrapper. Actually they have a small version of the Cabinet called the Tres Petite where the wrapper flavor comes through a bit more that I like to take in for a quicker smoke.

Other favorites: Zino Platinums like Grand Masters and Chubbys. Fuentes are nice once in a while, as are Partagas and Avos. Gurkhas round off my humidor.

Best cigar I've had, and I've had a few Cuban leaf (which I'm not terribly impressed with), was made by Davidoff. Dunno what the name of it was but it was a fantastic smoke. I think even a non-smoker could have handled that one it was so smooth, yet still packed a punch. I highly recommend trying one if you get the chance.

I like the lighter cigars, not the Maduros so much. Any other recommendations?

  2. It's Punch Rothchild's for me...next come the Padron seconds at my local shop that I pick up for two bucks a stick. The look just like they just took the band off and repackaged it...

If you're looking for a good mild cigar, try a Griffin's...made by Davidoff.

I've been known to have a puff on one now and then, mainly when celebrating. I always seem to wake up with my throat feeling like it's been sandblasted though
    If in doubt, Google it.

Punch had an event at the shop near me and they were giving away free sticks of different varieties but I didn't really like the one I got. The Macanudo bus makes a stop there every summer as well but I don't dig those much either. I wish Ashton or Davidoff would hold an even there. I did meet Benji Menendez there once who does cigars for a big handmade place in DR, but I can't recall the brands they put out.

I'm glad I've at least got that place to smoke cigars. Most bars and restaurants have smoking sections but don't allow cigar smoking. Actually some counties are banning any smoking in any place that serves food or drinks, which I don't mind being a non-smoker (I would never touch a cigarette and I only have a cigar maybe once or twice a month), but that limits me even more. In fact I was at my favorite pub that still endorses cigars and the cigarette smokers at the table next to me actually had the balls to ask me not to light up my cigar!

I guess I don't understand why the people who have the biggest problems with cigar smokers are cigarette smokers. Any of you cigarette smokers shed some light on this?

That's ridiculous particularly if you were in a pub, my bad experience was being in a restaurant in the morning where not one but 5 Italian guys lit up a bunch of those damn parody's(sp?). Those things have got to be the vilest smelling cigar there is. I mean we are talking about a restaurant where no one was smoking. I smoke in restaurants/bars but just ones where it's a bar atmosphere, lighting up in a family restaurant is whole other deal. I mean they were done eating and just sitting there stinking up the place.

I haven't smoked a cigar in a while. I was into those mini cigars for a bit. You really want to have at least a half hour to enjoy a good cigar, but that hardly comes by for me anymore.

I don't remember any names. My brother would usually pick up a few cigars and we would smoke them after work. If I see the cigar, I can tell you if it's one that I liked, but I'm absolutely horrible when it comes to remembering what they're called.

I was at one of the more popular pubs last night and wasn't sure if they had rules against cigar smoking but I had one of the Ashton Tres Petites on me and lit up anyway because I hadn't had a cigar in probably two months. There was a guy smoking a pipe so I figured I should be safe. Shortly after I lit up a bunch of other guys pulled out their sticks and lit up as well, so they must have seen me and figured it was alright. At that point I felt pretty safe and enjoyed the cigar with some Jameson.

A half-hour is a pretty quick smoke for the size sticks I like. I don't hit the Churchills or the big ring gauge ones but the ones I do usually get are about an hour smoke. The Tres Petites are nice also because they are about a half-hour smoke, but they're pricey for their size. Actually for quick smokes there are these caracoas by CAO that are very tasty, or get a tin of XS Demi-Tasse Zino Platinums which are pretty much the size of a cigarrette but with Zino's blend of Domincan and Peruvian leaf. Those go pretty quick but since the gauge is so narrow they burn hotter and are a little spicier because of it.

Has anyone had any of the Zino Crown series cigars? I've been thinking of getting one and wondered how they compare to the Platinums. I think the difference is ligero leaf is used in those so packs more of a punch like the Hansotia Gurkhas or VSG Ashtons.

You know, I don't see how cigarette smokers can take offense to cigar smoke. I smoke cigs and cigars and neither really bothers me, even if I'm not the one smoking. As a smoker, I would think that cigar smoke would have less of an impact.

It's like the guy with his rice rocket coffee can muffler telling the hotrod with the flowmaster to shut up. Both are noisy, it really doesn't matter. Smoke is smoke.

I can understand a non smoker taking offense to cigar smoke, but smokers not liking cigar smoke doesn't make any sense.

Next time I go to Vegas, I have to hit Davidoff in the Ventian, before I get my week started. The casinos are one of the few places that you can smoke in AND you'll be sitting down for at least an hour, if you gamble. Whenever I sat down at a machine, I burned through more cigarettes than I had budgeted for the day. I kept my rolling supplies up in my room and it was a pain in the ass to go back up and roll some more.

That must have been amusing. Going to Vegas to plunk a grand into the slots, but rolling your own with a machine.

I could see if you used Bull Durham flake, no replacement for that, but to save half a buck a pack rolling Bugler?

    Cheers,

    George

I ain't jackin' ya. Most of them here probably don't even know smokes can be hand or personal machine rolled. Smokes come out of a vending machine, don't they?
