  1. Hi All,

I just wanted to know how many of us are interested in having DVD recorder with USB interface for DVD/CD-burner (writer) capability ?

This way, you don't need to buy a separate DVD-burner and DVD-recorder AND moreover you will be able to control your DVD-recording REMOTELY thru USB.

Why is there a reason to buy 2 devices (1 for PC DVD-burner and 1 for DVD-recorder) when a DVD-recorder with a USB connection to a PC can perform BOTH functions?

    thx,texavery

My computer is not by my TV.

The Lite-On recorders use regular IDE drives so just get a really long cable .

  3. Come on ,they must be a stronger reason than just the distance between a PC and a TV.

Nowadays, all appliances trend towards remote controllability by a PC.
So if you are away from home and you want to turn on and record manually with your DVD-recorder , a USB interface will do just that.

  5. Leebo,

You're right: it seems like this is the ideal DVD recorder that I have been looking for ...until I found out that this Sony VDR VD-10 does NOT have Firewire Interface , that most DVD recorders seem to support, but only S-video /RCA.

So if one has a mini DV camcorder and would like to transfer the DIGITAL video from the camcorder to a DVD , it will be thru ANALOG i/f first (Svideo/RCA).So there 'll be some loss.

What is the matter with this industry ? I thought DVD recorders have been around for more than 3 years now. so the main co. and especially the Sony should have matured with these products.Shouldn't they ?

It seems like everytime they are making one step forward (by supporting host USB i/f) , they make another one backward (IEEEfirewire not supported) .

And I have not mentioned other issues that I discovered with DVD recorders (+ and - media , mono vs stereo tuner, finalized disks not playing, full disk burning not playing , 4x disk suppport... and the list goes ON)
