Canopus makes one, the ADVC300. How does that one compare to the Datavideo TBC-1000.

  2. Beside the fact that the Canopus does Analog to Digital Conversion?

But just as a TBC, what would be the pros of getting the Canopus over the DataVideo? I'm actually asking this question for someone else, and I really don't know exactly 100% what he's wanting to do yet, but I don't want him wasting money on something he won't need.

There isn't, the Canopus is not a full frame TBC. I saw a post recently about the differences but can't seem to find it. I'm no expert on the exact differences but here's a great post on TBC's https://www.videohelp.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=1115672#1115672

If the prices are still the same the difference in price for the ADVC 300 compared to the 100 is $200, your better off spending the extra $50 bucks and getting the Datavideo 1000. Besides that it's also portable and can be used for other things such as transferring from VCR to DVD Recorder.

Right now I'm using a ADVC 110 (same as 100 except it's powered via firewire) and Datavideo 1000 and I couldn't be happier.

    TBC, Datavideo or Canopus?
If Macrovision is all that's bothering you, the Canopus ADVC-100 wil take care of it (i.e. remove MV). Of course, it doesn't do time-base corrections etc.

You have to disable the MV through a hack, I think you have to hold the input button in or something. I've seen it posted that this hack no longer workers for newer models.

I'm just wondering as far as a TBC goes. Like I said, it's for someone else. I've already hacked the ATI macrovision out of my system some time ago. Just trying to see what all options there are available. Seems the Canopus with TBC and analog to digital conversion looks like a nice piece of equipment.
