  1. i downloaded an avi movie file which is marginally too big to fit on 1 cd by a few kilobytes (700 MB). so i decided to remove the credits using virtualdub. however the audio of the output file was jittery and there were small periods of silence every second. the video was problem free. the original file is perfect having no errors. please help me. are there any other good avi editors??

  2. I don't know why you are having problems with virtualdub, try using virtualdub mod and see if you get the same problem.

  3. i was opening the file in VideoLAN which caused the problems in the audio, when i opened in media player classic, it opened correctly. but now i have another problem, the audio exceeds the video. the dialogue spoken is seen after almost 20 secs. please help in correcting this

In Virtualdub under audio>interleaving>audio skew. Enter + or - numbers in mS, for instance 20 S. = 20,000 mS. Go back to the main screen to preview and adjust as necessary. Once fixed set the audio and video to direct stream copy and then save avi.

  5. Ugh, yeah, what he said! ^^^

  6. but the movie starts correctly, in the middle something happens and the video and audio go out of sync.so when i put in the skew values, the video exceeds the audio, then later it gets fixed. is there any other avi editor like the "mpeg tools" of tmpgenc. or any other way to reduce the size of the file?

thanx alot for all ur help uptil now guys. sorry if im being annoying

Can you post a GSpot screen dump of the file ?
    If in doubt, Google it.

  8. heres a screenie when i open the original file in gspot:

  9. Probably due to variable bitrate I'm guessing. I had issues with a VBR MP3 format audio stream recently.

Almost got him Jim! I think people are on to you!

  10. I was thinking the same thing.
    Shame on you Jim
No, I'm from Iowa. I only work in outer space.

  11. so what do i do about the variable bitrate??

  12. I certainly hope that movie clip isn't copyrighted.

    Hard to tell. No evidence.

  14. I converted the audio to a WAV file, converted the video to an MPEG2 and then I authored a DVD with that. Sounds like you want to go to VCD, and I'm not familiar with that process.

  15. Don't use Virtual Dub for the job, as it can't handle VBR MP3 audio. Use either Virtual Dub Mod (and say no when the warning message pops up), or Nandub. Set both the video and audio to Direct Stream Copy, cut the credits, and then save under a different name. Takes only a couple of minutes.

    No & No.

Both of you obviously didn't read my rant
    j/k

I specifically mention blacking out the titles on GSpot screen dumps because the titles does not tell us anything meaningful that we need to know - it's the bitrates and codecs used that are important
    If in doubt, Google it.

We're talking about the fact that you were smart enough to black out the filenames

Not to be too pragmatic in this, but since you're only over by few kilobytes, did you consider trying an overburn?? Would have saved reprocessing and you could keep the credits.

Can't rip it to put on a vcd...... so if i own a dvd and want to D/L it to put on a vcd (which he stated that is what he was putting it on) it's illegal, even though i own the original ??

Yes, it's illegal. The problem is the downloading.

so if i own I Robot, i can rip it, back it up and it's legal, but if i don't have anyway to back it up myself, i can't D/L it to burn it to vcd even though i have the original store bought dvd sitting on my shelf ??
See, i would pretty much never waste my time D/L any video because they are usually pretty crappy off the net and a waste of time, just seem's kind of weird.......

    Anyone else ??

...so you've heard? If you haven't wasted your time doing it, how would you know what the quality is like?

Oh, you did say "pretty much", not "never".

  27. Would that be your defense in court? Who's to say AFTER they Sue you...You didnt go out and Buy it. I really dont know if it's legal or not,but you have no defense in court.

It does not matter if he owns the movie. In the eyes of the industry, it is still illegal and considered warez. If he had it on dvd, why would he want to lose quality by putting it on video cd. Your defense is weak and illogical. It would make more sense to buy a dvd burner and make a backup dvd, if he truely owned it.

To the industry, you cannot back up your movies either. It is illegal.

However, fair use runs counter to that, but the industry is trying to wipe out fair use.
