Hi , here is my problem on average I will take a 700mb 90min .avi file Xvid/Divx compression , extract the audio with virtual dub (V1.5.10). Then re-encode it into a 16:9 NTSC mpeg2 with MP2 audio using TMPGEnc (v2.5) my average encode times are about 7-8hrs with my current hardware is their anyway to shorten this encoding time?
1Ghz Athlon
512mb DDR 2700
7600 rpm hd with 8mb cache
Nvidia 64mb video card
Thank You, Any help is appreciated.

As I figured Thank You , guess I will have to put up with the encoding times until I aquire new hardware. Again Thank You very fast response time BTW.

Well now software plays a huge part as well. There are several encoders that are more then twice as fast as TMPGenc (Cinema Craft Encoder and MainConcept).

If you're using 2 pass VBR you can try single pass Constant Quality mode instead. That will double your speed since it will only require one pass. Final file size will be variable though.

Use motion search estimate and don't use any filters.
