  1. Ive noticed that most of the time my ripping speed is very slow under 4000 kbs. On occasion I do go above 5000 and have done above 10 on a few occassions. Ive read the sticky on ripping speeds and have tried all the above but I am still inconsistent. Is this due to the source having scratches or what not?

my drive usually rips around 4-5, but for some reason it's doing this CSI disc at like 1100. Ahhhh bloody hell!!!!!

The weird thing is all of my CSI's have backed up at that slow. If I pop in my Black Hawk Down, I'm back up to 6000 adn 7000's. Stupid CBS DVD's!!!!

  5. rips speeds are inconsistent across discs. Most notably when you get a single layer commercial, the speeds should and usually do get right up to almost the maximum of your drive speed whereas dual layers tend to be a lot slower, usually limited to around 8MB/sec. Why don't you run a test on your system using the nero cd/dvd info tool. Try with all types of dvd (dvd-9, dvd-5, dvd-r, dvd+r etc etc).

your write speed of your hdd speeds is a non issue really, unless the hdd and dvd drive are on the same ide channels. Make sure they are on seperate channels, and udma is set for both drives under system properties/hardware.
