i have over the years accumulated hundreds of console games.. IE Sega N64 Atari coleco vision etc.. and for one reason or another i dont use them. either the tv connector has gone bad or the contacts are dirty and you have to fux with it to get it to work.. anyway.. as most of you know there are EMUs for 90% of the consoles out there.. would it be wrong to DL all the games i have and the corresponding EMU and play them on a computer? i mean do any of YOU feel it would be? ive tested a few and some seem to be pretty good.. the only one that is questionable is the dreamcast one.. and that one even works pretty good other than getting the controller to work correctly and the fact that you need a pretty fast computer for it to work.
but anyway.. im not about to spend the time getting all my old boxes working or set up again.. it would be very nice to have them all on a DVD or CD and just pup them in computer.. hell even my Xbox when moded can play almost all other games. (if ported that is)
do you guys think that’s "warez" and therefore wrong?

Hello,
No not warez if you have the game itself

BUT it's kind of like DVD backups. Not EXPRESSLEY ok'd by fairuse but that's HOW we justify it here. We use it for our OWN backup

Take this as only my opinion, but you just stated that you will do what you think is fair. In my opinion, that's all you really need. You've already made up your mind.
Asking us does one of two things - it will either tell you that noone thinks it's ok, and you'll probably do it anyway, or we'll think it's ok, and you'll do it anyway. If you can live with it, you should really take the "don't ask...don't tell" approach.
By the way, I probably would. -

Not trying to stir anything up, or point any fingers (yeah right), but how many post have you read from people ordering 1000 or more blank media a month, or asking how bootleggers print their DVDs?
What response di you think you would get? -

"It is illegal to decrypt something that has a licensed encryption, without written consent."
Apparently, a supreme court judge is making his decision about the Hollywood companies. The whole thing is being kept as quiet as possible though. A good source of information to the media is that the companies are being fined and are required to provide a "BACK-UP ONLY" software for people to make personal copies of their CD's & DVD's. Also that they are not allowed to block the right of peoples "Fair Use" by mode of technology.
A lot of this is scampered material from various sources, but again, it's being kept very low profile. I'm betting Jack Valenti has a big hand in that feature. Prabably the same hand he masturbates with. -

Some ROMs are legal to download, some are not. "Download" is the key word.

Technically, it is legal to download copyrighted material as long as you own the original. The question to that is why would someone need to download something when they already own it. The rebuttal is that something happened to the original and the person is looking for a replacement. Companies themselves don't want to spend the money on regulating it on the back end. mostly because of expense. It's cheaper and easier to do it on the front end. But they are finding out it is illegal for them to do so. They are only scooting by on technicalities and the fact that people have not enforced it. The same reason pirating has continued to happen. By them persuing the problem, they are only looking to catch themselves using the same system to make money by finding loopholes to extend the time they have.

If you own the physical copy, you have personal viewing rights. One of which is to download a copy for you to personally view it. Uploading is illegal, because you are offering it to public and that is copyright infringment. You're not allowed to show or distribute the movie publicly. it's the same in the US as anywhere. The reason there is big stick about it is because the copyright holders are not the ones putting the movie online, and pirates (or people who do not have a physical licensed copy in their possesion) take advantage of downloading the movies too.
This applies to video games, music, movies, and even written documents.
