Firmware question for Lite-On DVD-ROM

I have a Lite-On LTD 163d DVD-Rom drive with gh3 firmware. I have posted about needing a firmware update to help me read more dvd-r media. Went to cdfreaks.com, rpcgroup, jlms, etc. for firmware.

Here's my prob, they only seem to have gh7, gh8 and a region code unlocker. I can't seem to update with the 7 or 8. After dl them and running the app it tells me that my drive is not compatible with the update, i.e. wrong firmware for my drive, even though it says that the firmware is for the 163d. Do I have to hunt down 4, 5, and 6 before updating? I am at my wits end at trying to copy dvdr to dvdr. I would just get another dvd-rom drive but the Lite-on rips so fast I'd hate to have to ditch it.

Any help would be appreciated.
