how to put video clips in a web site

i got some vid clips i wanna put on my web site but their are avi files and quicktime opens them. bad thing is that they're are no controls or any sound. how can i get passed this?

You have no control over that. The user's computer does. Only way to avoid it is to make it WMV, which forces Windows Media Player, or make it QT, which forces (usually) QuickTime.

How big are these clips?


You can convert them to MPEG with freeware here - http://home.cogeco.ca/~avi2vcd/


or convert to .rm for Real Media Player

Also browse the tools section for freeware for other formats


Fortunecity.com will probably allow the clips on their free hosting server, but they plant a bunch of adware, which may keep people from visiting your site.


Not sure what all the free sites offer, but they won't allow large files due to bandwidth and possible warez.

You can get MS's media encoder here, it's probably the best format to use if your trying to keep your users in mind.

Not sure about where to go for free hosting but anything you do find is going to have limited bandwidth which isn't going to work very well for video.

There is one other option you can use to embed it in the page that will work for nearly all users..... use flash. You'll probably need a good flash editor to do it.

This what I thought as video clips such as MPEG, QTime, WMV and even DivX as usually too big to store on a free website server.

This would depend on the frame size and how long the clip is on for.

I too would like to have my own video clips made available on my website as it is too small using free ISP web storage.

I am only allowed 10MB and this is far too small for video clips to store.

My web server is already almost full having all sorts of webpages now and there is no room for the clips.

I don't have any more storage than a floppy disk and I am considering upgrading my webspace to the paid hosting service.

I would like add a link on my website for someone to download my videos on a server like that and to include instructions with a link to download video players such as QTime and DivX with the necessary codecs for them to play the clips.

I know some web servers wouldn't allow video files to be stored and for that reason you have to buy a website hosting service.

This if they allow you to upload them, the video clips. If they do, is that you have to upload your own videos, not warez.

What you pay for it is what you get: better website server, larger storage capacity and greater efficiency, reliability guarantee in access to your website for visitors.

Alternatively, you can setup your own server at home or someplace yourself with broadband Internet to store these clips for someone to download for viewing.

This is provided you got IIS available using Win2000 or WinXP Pro as a website server and your own Internet address.

You can still have your hosting service whether free or paid as your website.
