I used virtual dub to extract the wav audio from an avi, is there a way to dump/trash the audio from that avi file so that all I'm left with is just video?

Use virtualdub. Open the AVI and go to video > Direct Stream Copy, then go to audio > No audio. File > Save as AVI and job's right.
    If in doubt, Google it.

Also, when I open this AVI, it gives me this message below, what can I do about this, seems confusing....

VirtualDub has detected an improper VBR audio encoding in the source AVI-file...this will introduce up to 13478 ms of skew...if this is unacceptable decompress the *entire* stream to an uncompressed WAV-file and recompress with a constant bitrate encoder. (bitrate: 183.3 +- 33.5kbps)

you can ignore it if you are gonna remove the audio. you will only get audio sync problems if you use audio->direct stream copy, use virtualdub-mp3-freeze then instead.

If you wanted to keep and use the audio, use VD to save it out as a WAV file and if you want to use it for an MPEG, take that file along with the video to feed your encoder. You can also mux it back into the AVI file, but it will be big. You will probably want to convert it to AC3 or MPEG-1, Layer 2 audio. Layer 2 can be done with most decoders. AC3 you need a plugin or separate audio encoder.

use virtualdub-mp3-freeze. It can handle VBR MP3 audio properly.
    If in doubt, Google it.
