    Looking for a good tool that can tell me the (video & audio) bit rate of a given format. I used gspot but it gave me bad info...and no avi or mpg support.

    Try GSpot 2.52 beta - it works fine on both AVI and MPEG for me

    AVICodec

    Probably more in the tools section
    If in doubt, Google it.
