Shift Change: A Short Story -- Part VIII

[Tommyknocker]

(The Warehouse)
"You sure you want to do that in front of witnesses, Defense?" A voice said from out of the darkness.

"Who said that!" He yelled, removing the gun from Baldrick's head and pointing it towards the shadowed areas.

"Me. Can't you see me?" The voice said again.

"Hey, Baldrick, that's the ugliest date I seen you with yet." Another voice said.

"That's the truth. If you look up 'skank', it has her picture. It must be love, he's doing the bondage thing."

"I don't know who you are, but I'm not alone." Defense yelled defiantly. "Bruno, get in here!"

"Who's Bruno?"

"Must be one of the guards in the alley."

"He's screwed then. How do we know which one's Bruno?"

"I'll throw one down, and he can tell us if it's Bruno." A voice from the rafters yelled down. The body came crashing down from the ceiling a few feet from Defense. Shocked, he shot it until his gun emptied.

"Must not be Bruno." Another voice said.

"I don't think it matters. That guy just got fired."

Defense ran to a nearby bag, reached in, grabbed a fresh clip.

Capmaster quickly descended from the rafters silently on a rope between Defense and the bound Baldrick. Defense turned, saw Capmaster, and started to raise his weapon. Capmaster's foot shot out, kicked the gun, and it went clattering into the shadows.

"Hey, this place gives door prizes." A voice near where the gun slid yelled.

"Don't touch it, you'll leave fingerprints." A voice warned.

"I know. He probably has cooties, anyway."

Defense panicked, and turned to run. Cap grabbed him, and started to pummel him unmercifully.

"Hey, Prez, you gonna kill him, or what?" Lord Smurf said, walking from the shadows.

"The thought had crossed my mind, but I don't want all the paperwork." Cap answered, getting his last blows in. He stopped and let Defense slide to the ground, bloody and unconscious. Cap turned towards Baldrick, who was almost untied by the others, and smiling gratefully.

"Thanks a lot everybody, I don't know how to thank you all."

"Let's call the cops and get out of here first, Boss." Cap said.

"Why call the cops?"

"Because Defense just shot someone in cold blood. He might make a case of self defense with all the bruises I gave him, but one things for sure, he's out of the forum busting business. Maybe he can make the Vegas circuit as female impersonator."

"Forget it. He can't even accessorize." Baby Boo laughed.

All I know about him was I believe he was banned. Other than that I don't have a clue. Might have been before I joined

Defense was a once-contributing member here that "went over to the dark side". He had some sort of break and became a real troublemaker.
