  1. i have been thinking of either an 'Avermedia dvd ezmaker gold', or a 'winfast tv2000 expert'.

i want to capture vhs to hard drive with resolution of 720 x 576, as a .vob so i can burn to dvd to use on a standard player. the audio is just sterio.

before burning i would like to enhance the video, as it is a little grainy and dark in places.

and although its a job to do after capture, i do not want to add a menu, chapters or any other features to the dvd, just the captured video.

You can't do that (record to a .vob file that is - the resolution is ok). You can record as an AVI or MPG file. Then you have to AUTHOR that file to the dvd structure which is made up of .vob,.ifo, and .bup files in a video_ts folder.

With that said I use the hauppauge wintv pvr250 which is a mpeg only capture card that works perfectly
