I read somewhere that the "Z" is a rebellion against software companies that charge you for products.
    Yes Appz=Applications.

  4. which makes them more money? selling 1000 copies at $699 or selling 1,000,000 copies at $39? (wake up adobe & M$!! LOL)

I dont see why they dont realize it?

They spend pennies to produce each cd but think its worth hundreds? (or thousands for some stuff)

sure, I understand they need to make their production costs, etc back.... but wouldnt that be better made back on a larger level by selling software at lower prices?

until then.. people will continue to pirate software, and people will continue to but cds by the spindle

  5. I wonder if there will ever be a "bootlegging tax" placed on CD-R's that make them more expensive?

  7. In case folks didn't know, there has been a "surcharge" (TAX) placed on all blank
cassette tapes and blank video tapes (VHS, Beta, etc) for years. This money goes
to the artists and companies to "compensate them for casual copying". In other words,
you've already paid a fee for the copying of a disk or tape.

Putting a surcharge on CDRs and CDRWs is surely going
to happen, if it already hasn't.

  8. That surcharge is actually why the music-only cd-r's (for the standalone burners) cost many times as much as normal cd-r's.

They're having a hard time justifying putting that tax on regular cd-r's, though, because the user may just be using them to copy data off his hard drive.
