  1. hi, trying to back up some files onto dvd cd's along with a bunch of movies,

movies will go on their own dvd cd, and i want to be able to play them on my TV, same with pictues,

they are all different types of formats, avi, mpg, wmv, just wondering will they all be able to play? or only mpgs?

    thx

  3. hmm. all i can find is stuff on mpeg this and mpeg that,
SO, from what i did read on previous posts, correct me if im wrong
this will most likely be a data dvd with just movies b/c of all the different formats,

BUT i guess dvd players can only play mpeg, so it will only show/play the mpegs on the cd, this would make sense since divx movies have to be changed to mpegs before making a vcd

as for the other formats, avi, wmv, i wont be able to play them unless its in my computer or unless i convert them to mpeg,

    so does that make sense?

hmm, mpegs will take up more space though,

No, what was in that post I linked to told you that not all DVD Players will play anything but DVD-Video. If you want file based video, you need a DVD player that will play other formats such as DivX, XviD, and other MPEG4 formats. There is at least one that will play WMV.

Other than those, you will need to convert EVERY file to MPEG2 format, and author a DVD-Video disc.

I didn't want to go through all that trouble, so got myself Dvix Player(Rjtech RJ-1500IIdvx).
Just copy most of formats to DVD( as data file), and pop it into the player and enjoy the movie.
Since then, my life became very simple.
