I have a NEC 1300a with Herrie's 1.08 hacked firmware with the autoreset and bitsettings.

I have a pack of Teon 8x DVD-R disks that this drive refuses to use. It doesn't know what speed to burn them and it fails the instant it tries to start the lead-in.

I see that Herrie's website is down. Is there any newer firmwares for this drive that will do the same as herrie's and give updates for different media types?

It doesn't appear that firmware has the bitsetting features. I will have to wait until Herrie's site comes back up unless someone knows of a mirror for his site.

  5. 1.08 was the only version with bitsetting and will always be the only one. You can flash 1.0C and then flash back to 1.08B when you have used all of your 8x discs. But you should avoid newer 8x discs with that drive anyway and stick with well known 4x discs. You said that you have 8x -DVDs. Well - bitsetting is only necessary / available for +DVDs. If you have 8x +DVDs there is nothing you can do with your burner to make the look as DVD-ROM with bitsetting. Even if Herrie's page ever comes back.
