  1. Hey everyone.

I had a question about backing up dvds i have that would be too large to fit on one dvd-r without compression or cutting something out and I want to put them on 2 dvd-rs. now what i want is to keep everything as far as menus and extras along with just the movie.

now ive seen a couple guides that go over this, but of the programs ive seen, none would let me split it up so that the movie is the only thing on the first disc while all the extras and such is on the second disc. is there any programs out there that will do this? all ive tried just splits the movie into two over the two discs. im just trying to avoid having to change discs in the middle of the movie. thanks.

Most movies are just too big too fit on one DVD-R even without all the extras. Compression will be your only option for those.

But to split it and put the extras on the second disc with menu, try CloneDVD. It will also compress the movie for the first disc.

    Hello,

Dvdshrink can also split to two discs. And I don't have an issue with the quality of a movie only compression with dvdshrink (it also has a deep analysis mode to improve quality).

i think he wants to keep the menus - which is difficult to do with dvdshrink (easy anyway)

  5. hmm well i tried dvd shrink but i didnt see any options to let me choose what goes on each disc, it just automatically split the movie over the two discs.

i guess i should just go with that. its a hard choice though, either go for better video quality and have to change discs in the middle, or go for compression so the movie can be watched all the way through. do you all think its a better choice to go for the quality? or is a compressed version not so much worse?

    Hello,

REAUTHOR mode will let you pick and choose what you want in dvdshrink. Though as mentioned earlier it is difficult to keep the menu in dvdshrink.

Dvdremake pro can do menu creation in compressed discs better than dvdshrink from what I understand.

I use DVDFab if I want to split a DVD-9, keeping the menu and all the extras. Both discs will have the menu, but the extras will be kept only on disc 1. If I know the media I'll be using can burn at its maximum rated speed, then I"ll use DVDFab's burning engine. If I know the media will not burn at its maximum speed (i.e Memorex DVD-R RitekG05 won't burn reliably at 8x for me, can only burn at 4x) then I'll just save the output to my HD and burn with Nero instead. I only say this cause you can't change the burning speed on DVDFab's burning engine (default is set to maximum). HTH.

Use this guide. For your first disc, blank out all extras. For your second disc, blank out the main movie. Feed each new disc into DVDShrink and remove unwanted audio & subtitles. Simple as that.

Most DVDs will not require any compression when done this way.
    If in doubt, Google it.
