  1. [DVD tho not CD newbie here]

After converting XVID Dvdrip movie to DVD files with WINAVI 5.8,

I burned my v. first 2 DVD's [DVD-R} - one with Nerovision Express, one with Nero Burning Rom

both gave me same fault: they freeze after about 14 mins in exact same spot on both PC - with Windvd - AND my divx dvdplayer

they also are v. slow to advance in Windvd - when I try to move them forward few mins, or an hour

the rest of the movie does seem to be there - I managed with difficulty to get a frame or two from about an hour on - but then movie wouldn't continue

ALSO (& pos. related) while the screen seems to be roughly same dimensions as orig. XVID on PC - [XVID - 640 x336] - it ONLY plays as normal 4:3 on TV screen with dvd player...

and files on DVD only 2.18GB

any ideas what I'm doing wrong? [& should i have clicked "Add Counter" in Nero Burning Rom?]

    many thx for any help

are these files that you downloaded from Kazaa or something like that? Xvid files of that source are well known to be troublesome (read: they're usually incomplete, corrupted, or just total crap). Better just to buy the retail DVD. If these are files that you ripped from yourself from discs you own, better to rip to AVI using MJPEG or Huffyuv codec, then encode to MPEG-2. More reliable results that way.

  3. use divfix to search and take care of bad frames....

I'd recomend thefilmmachine.com to convert from avi to DVD (use divfix first)

  4. 1) Read some conversion guides here
    2) Make sure your source files are not corrupted in anyway as suggested by the other posters
    3) Check that your standalone player will play DVD +/- r here
    4) Be sure to use good quality media here

Fast and easy does not always (or even often) equal good.
